Hacettepe University LA-ICP-MS Laboratory is an educational and research facility established within the Division of Mineral Deposits and Geochemistry, Department of Geological Engineering.

The LA-ICP-MS Laboratory meets the analysis demands for rock and natural water samples required in research across Hacettepe University.

The laboratory also fulfills analysis requests from faculty members with research projects, consultancy services, as well as public and private institutions, provided that the fees are deposited to H.U. Revolving Fund Management.

The technical infrastructure consists of components capable of analyzing solid and liquid samples. The main equipment includes a Thermo Electron X7 model ICP-MS, Cetac ASX-510 autosampler, New Wave Merchantec Polaris ST UP266 frequency-quadrupled 266 nm UV laser ablation system, Milestone Ethos microwave digestion oven, and a Barnstead Nanopure Diamond ultrapure water system along with other sample preparation units.

Concentrations of nearly 80 elements can be determined using LA-ICP-MS. In routine applications, 68 elements can be quantitatively measured with the current calibration standards of the Hacettepe University ICP-MS Laboratory. Together with semi-quantitatively determined elements, this number expands to cover 79 elements.

In quantitative analyses performed with LA-ICP-MS, detection limits for many elements are at the ppb (microgram/kilogram) level and below. Under suitable conditions, concentrations at ppt (nanogram/kilogram) levels can also be reliably determined. Element concentrations in quantitative analyses are determined using high-purity "NIST Traceable" calibration standards. Hacettepe University LA-ICP-MS Laboratory is not an accredited facility.
