The Division of General Geology conducts educational and research activities within fundamental geological disciplines examining the origin, structure, evolution, and dynamic processes of the Earth. The division aims to explain the geological processes the Earth has undergone from past to present using scientific methods, and aims to produce scientific solutions to fundamental problems regarding Turkey's complex geological framework and regional geological evolution.

The educational curriculum encompasses fundamental geological disciplines such as rock formation, stratigraphy, sedimentology, paleontology, structural geology, and tectonics. In addition, geomorphology, paleogeography, and paleoclimate studies are addressed through a holistic approach; interdisciplinary research is carried out to understand crustal dynamics alongside past geographical and environmental evolutions.

Students transform theoretical knowledge into practice through field observations, geological mapping exercises, and applied training. The origin and development processes of the Earth's crust are investigated in detail through geological mapping, stratigraphic analysis, and tectonic evaluations. Research carried out in the division contributes to understanding the geological evolution of Turkey and the world, while empowering students with extensive field experience and scientific research competencies alongside a solid theoretical foundation.
